Get to know the faces and stories behind this project.
The street art collective Munich Wallflowers was founded out of a desire to create a space for women in the street art scene, fostering creativity, community, and greater visibility for female artists.
Since the summer of 2024, the collective has been creating legal and welcoming spaces where women interested in street art can have their first experiences with this art form. Through workshops and collaborative painting sessions, we encourage experimentation, skill development, and the exploration of different techniques, while building a supportive community of artists at all levels.
CASSIE TUMLINGSON
An American artist now living in Munich, Cassie Tumlinson, known for her surrealist oil paintings, recently discovered a passion for spray paint and street art.
Trained in classical drawing and painting, Cassie combines these traditional techniques with cans to bring surrealistic themes to large-scale street art. She loves spray’s bright, dramatic effects, rapid expression, and its reach to a wide audience.
MARION WILKEN
Marion Wilken, also known as RedFoxHippie, was born in Munich and has been painting since her school days. She associates her childhood in Giesing with the positive aspects of lived cultural diversity. Her art remained a hobby for many years until she joined the Verein zur Förderung urbaner Kunst e. V. (Association for the Promotion of Urban Art) in 2023; a year later, she became part of the Munich Wallflowers.
While her work with the association primarily involves paving the way for urban art in Munich through administrative support, the Munich Wallflowers allow her to fully pursue her passion for creating colorful wall art herself. Some of her works in public spaces can be found at the Kunsttreff Halt 58.
VANESSA HOFFMANN
Vanessa Hoffmann is an artist from Florida, USA. She moved to Germany at age 18, and started her journey as an AuPair. Her work with children continues and has a strong influence on her art, being playful, colorful and comical.
Vanessa focuses on people, the many types of characters there are in our lives with different stories to share, and social topics/issues. Her art often takes form in a Wimmelbild, a German expression for a "Look and find picture. She paints mainly using ink and watercolor but since joining Munich Wallflowers her art is also taking a much larger form.
MELIKE KERPEL
Melike Kerpel / MELIKE is a visual artist originally from Izmir, now based in Munich, working between urban and contemporary art. Her work moves through nature, identity, and perception.
Growing up by the sea, the ocean and its fluidity have remained lasting influences on her work. Her practice was further shaped by more than five nomadic years traveling and painting murals worldwide, where the cultures and landscapes she encountered continue to inform her approach to interconnectedness and empathy toward all living beings.
Through large scale murals, installations, and paintings, she creates visual and spatial experiences that reveal how a single viewpoint can hold multiple meanings at once. Her work builds interactions between image, space, and viewer, encouraging awareness, dialogue, and understanding across differences.
MARCELA GLORIA
Marcela Gloria, also known as marchinmars, is a Mexican graphic designer and illustrator based in Munich. Her artistic practice moves between digital illustration, linocut, and large-scale painting using spray paint and acrylics.
Her work explores femininity, nature, identity, and the relationship between personal experiences and the spaces we inhabit. Moving fluidly between illustration and urban art, she combines bold graphic elements with organic forms, creating playful yet expressive compositions.
For IDentity, she explores the origins of Northern Mexican musical culture through the accordion and polka, tracing their journey from German, Polish, and Czech immigrants to Northern Mexico and the Southern United States. Through her work, she reflects on how these European influences were transformed and absorbed into the cultural identity of the region.
